Windows 11 File Explorer Receives Important Updates

Microsoft has announced that the File Explorer of Windows 11 will soon feature an improved file size display. This update aims to significantly enhance the readability of file sizes by displaying larger files in megabytes or gigabytes. Previously, sizes were shown in kilobytes, which often led to confusion. Additionally, two important options are returning to the right-click menu. Microsoft is currently testing the reintroduction of the entries "Refresh" and "Print" in the context menu of the File Explorer.

These features were previously removed during a menu overhaul, which caused dissatisfaction among users. The "Refresh" option will be integrated into the experimental build 26300.8376. This feature will allow users to quickly refresh the view in the File Explorer without having to switch menus. Previously, this option was only available in the desktop menu. Another point concerns the printing function.

Users will soon be able to print files directly from the context menu without having to open the old menu first. This change is expected to significantly improve user workflow and increase efficiency. Microsoft also plans to simplify and speed up the right-click menu in a future version. This could further enhance usability and ease navigation in the File Explorer. The new features are part of the Windows 11 beta version and are expected to be available to all users in the coming weeks.

Microsoft has not yet provided a specific date for the official release of the updates. The changes in the File Explorer are part of a series of improvements that Microsoft is planning for Windows 11. These updates aim to optimize the user experience and tailor the software to user needs. The new representation of file sizes will be particularly beneficial for users dealing with large files. For example, a file of 8 gigabytes will now be displayed as "8 GB," enhancing clarity.

Smaller files will continue to be displayed in kilobytes. Microsoft has consistently engaged with user feedback in the past and has sought to adapt the software accordingly. The return of the menu items and the improvement of the file size display are direct responses to user requests. The test version 26300.8376 is already circulating and is being tested by a selected group of users. Microsoft plans to release the new features to all Windows 11 users after the testing phase is completed.
