Cloud Security Index 2026: Risks Vary Significantly
A recent analysis of the 2026 Cloud Security Index by Intruder has shown that security risks among the three leading cloud providers – AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud – vary significantly. The study was based on data from 3,000 organizations and revealed that the risk profiles of the providers have few similarities. These findings shed new light on the challenges companies face in managing their cloud security strategies. The analysis indicates that each cloud platform has specific weaknesses arising from different configurations and security practices. For instance, AWS was found to have frequent misconfigurations in identity and access management, while Azure exhibited issues with network security.
Google Cloud, on the other hand, showed weaknesses in data storage, underscoring the need to develop tailored security solutions for each platform. A key finding of the study is that companies using multiple cloud services are particularly vulnerable to security incidents. The differing security standards and practices of the providers can lead to increased complexity, making it difficult to maintain a consistent security level. According to Intruder, 45% of companies utilizing multiple cloud services have already fallen victim to security incidents. The study also highlighted that training employees on cloud security is crucial.
67% of the surveyed organizations reported that inadequate training led to the most common security incidents. This emphasizes the need to implement not only technical solutions but also to raise employee awareness of security risks. Another important aspect of the analysis is the role of automation and AI in cloud security. Companies employing automated security solutions reported a 30% lower likelihood of experiencing security incidents. These technologies can help identify and rectify misconfigurations more quickly, thereby improving the overall security of cloud environments.
The study also highlights that compliance with regulations and standards poses a challenge. Many companies struggle to meet data security requirements across different regions and industries. 58% of respondents indicated that they have difficulties fulfilling compliance requirements for their cloud services, leading to an increased risk of data breaches. The results of the Cloud Security Index 2026 indicate that companies must take proactive measures to enhance their cloud security strategies. This includes regularly reviewing security configurations and implementing best practices for cloud security.
