WhatsApp has released a comprehensive update for using the messenger in vehicles equipped with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The new features are designed to facilitate operation while driving and enhance safety. Users can now listen to and respond to messages via voice commands, manage calls, and access preferred contacts without having to take their smartphones in hand. The user interface for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay has been completely overhauled. These changes aim to make the key functions directly accessible through the vehicle's screen.

Drivers can now initiate and accept WhatsApp calls as well as view their call list, significantly simplifying interaction while driving. Another important feature is the quick access to preferred contacts. Users can reach these directly through the new interface, speeding up communication while on the road. Operation can be done either hands-free via voice control or through the vehicle's controls, minimizing distraction. In addition to the improvements for in-car use, WhatsApp has also introduced new features for the web and desktop versions.

Users can now open PDF files directly in the chat without needing to download them first. This feature is complemented by an integration with Adobe Acrobat, allowing for simple edits such as highlighting text or adding annotations. The ability to share music from Apple Music and Spotify in WhatsApp status is another new addition. Users can share the currently playing track directly through the respective apps in their status with just a few steps, facilitating interaction with friends and contacts. Significant changes have also been made for iPad users.

Previously, it was necessary to link an iPad with an already set up WhatsApp account on a smartphone. This restriction has now been lifted, allowing users to create and set up a WhatsApp account directly in the iPad app. A valid phone number is still required for registration, as WhatsApp sends a confirmation code via SMS. The new features are being gradually rolled out to users starting now. As is common with larger updates, not all users will receive access to the new features simultaneously.
