New Mercedes GLA: Fully Electric and with Combustion Engines

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the new GLA, the brand's best-selling compact model. The GLA will now be offered both as a fully electric vehicle and with combustion engines. The fully electric variant is based on a new 800-volt platform, promising greater range and shorter charging times. The design of the new GLA has been significantly enhanced. With a length of 4.57 meters, the vehicle is 20 millimeters lower than its predecessor.

The wheelbase has been extended by 61 millimeters to 2.79 meters, resulting in increased space. The front of the new GLA is dominated by an illuminated grille with up to 608 light points. The new star-shaped LED headlights and taillights give the vehicle a distinctive identity, especially in the dark. At the market launch on July 30, 2026, three fully electric variants will be offered.

The GLA 200 electric has a power output of 224 hp and a 58 kWh battery. The GLA 250 electric offers 272 hp and an 85 kWh battery, while the top model, GLA 350 4Matic electric, delivers 354 hp and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds. The maximum theoretical range of the fully electric models is 657 kilometers according to WLTP. Thanks to the 800-volt system, the vehicle can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 20 minutes, significantly facilitating everyday use. The trunk of the new GLA now has a capacity of 410 liters, representing an increase of 70 liters compared to its predecessor.

Additionally, there is a front trunk with a volume of 107 liters. All-wheel-drive versions are capable of towing trailers weighing up to 2,000 kilograms, which ranks among the highest values in this vehicle class. Inside, a new MBUX Superscreen is introduced, extending across the entire dashboard. The system is based on the new Mercedes operating system MB.OS and integrates an AI-based MBUX Virtual Assistant that combines functions from ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Microsoft Bing. The navigation uses Google Maps and can plan charging stops as well as find available parking spaces.

Moreover, it adjusts the route based on current traffic conditions and energy consumption, enhancing driving efficiency. Among the optional features is the panoramic roof "Sky Control," which can electronically regulate the transparency of the glass. In the evening, the roof can illuminate with 172 integrated stars, further enhancing the driving experience. The first deliveries of the new GLA are expected in the fall of 2026. In early 2027, the model range will be expanded to include electrified gasoline versions equipped with a new 1.5-liter turbo engine and 48-volt technology.
