Deutsche Post AG to Become DHL AG

Deutsche Post AG will be legally renamed DHL AG starting September 1, 2026. This decision follows the rebranding of the corporate group in 2023, when the "Deutsche Post DHL Group" was renamed "DHL Group." The new name will be registered in the commercial register, marking the end of the legal existence of Deutsche Post AG. The renaming is part of a comprehensive restructuring of the company.

Shareholders voted with 99.95 percent approval for the spin-off of the Post & Package Germany business unit into an independent company. This new company will continue to operate under the name Deutsche Post AG and focus on day-to-day operations. The restructuring will incur significant costs. According to reports from Tagesschau, the expenses are estimated at around 37 million euros. This amount includes both the renaming and the associated administrative changes.

The subsidiary Deutsche Post AG will not be publicly listed and will have its own supervisory board. The annual costs for this supervisory board, along with additional administrative expenses, are estimated at three million euros. These measures aim to improve efficiency and focus on the core business of letter and parcel delivery. The renaming to DHL AG reflects the increasing international significance of the DHL brand, which has steadily grown since its acquisition by Deutsche Post in 2002. DHL stands for the last names of the company's founders Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillblom, and Robert Lynn and has established itself as a global logistics provider.

Deutsche Post AG will continue to be responsible for the letter and parcel business in Germany. This decision is intended to ensure that the Deutsche Post brand remains present in Germany, while the parent company DHL AG takes over the strategic direction and governance of the entire group. The restructuring will take effect in the second half of 2026, following the registration in the commercial register. Deutsche Post AG will then operate as a legally independent subsidiary, while DHL AG will steer the overarching corporate strategy. The renaming and the associated changes are part of a long-term strategy aimed at strengthening the company's competitiveness in the international market.

In recent years, Deutsche Post DHL Group has increasingly focused on logistics and parcel services to meet the growing demands of e-commerce. The restructuring will also impact employees. The new subsidiary is expected to create new positions to meet operational requirements. However, the exact number of new jobs and the associated changes in personnel are not yet known. Deutsche Post DHL Group has announced that the renaming and the associated changes align with the company's goals aimed at sustainable growth and innovation.

The transition to the new corporate structure is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. The renaming to DHL AG is seen as a significant step in the company's history, aimed at further strengthening the DHL brand. Deutsche Post AG will continue to operate as a trusted provider in the field of letter and parcel services. The restructuring is expected to officially take effect on September 1, 2026, after the necessary legal steps have been completed.
