Dacia Hipster: Series Model Set for Market Launch
Dacia has made progress in the development of the "Hipster", an innovative four-wheeled vehicle that was originally presented as a concept last year. According to reports from the British magazine "Autocar", the series model is set to hit the market in 2027. The starting price is estimated to be around €11,000, which corresponds to a British price of approximately £9,500. The vehicle is designed as a four-seater and is expected to fall under the EU class L7e for heavy four-wheeled vehicles. The power of the Hipster will be limited to 20 hp (15 kW), while the weight without the battery must not exceed 450 kilograms.
The top speed is limited to 90 km/h, making it a suitable vehicle for urban environments. A battery with a capacity of about 15 kWh is planned for energy supply. Details regarding the vehicle's range are not yet known. The dimensions of the Hipster are compact, with a length of about three meters, a width of 1.55 meters, and a height of 1.53 meters, bringing it close to a classic Mini. Additionally, Dacia is considering the possibility of developing a simpler two-seater version of the Hipster, which could fall under the less stringent L6e regulations.
This version could feature even lower power and reduced weight to meet the requirements of this classification. The design of the series model is expected to resemble that of the concept vehicle, albeit with some adjustments. Changes are planned for the front section, bumpers, and lighting. At the rear, the originally intended two-part tailgate will be replaced by a large, side-hinged flap to facilitate access to the trunk. An innovative feature of the Hipster is the docking station for smartphones, located behind the steering wheel.
This allows for seamless integration of modern technologies into the vehicle. Production of the Hipster is set to take place in Shiyan, China, where the first generation of the Dacia Spring was previously manufactured. To keep production costs low, Dacia plans to reuse parts from the old Spring model wherever possible. This strategy could help improve the cost-effectiveness of the new model while optimizing production capacities at the Chinese plant. Although the project is under development, Dacia has not yet officially given the Hipster the green light.
According to design chief David Durand, the project requires final approval from the management before it can enter series production. The plans indicate that the finished vehicle will be presented in 2027. The development of the Hipster could position Dacia in a new market segment, particularly in light of the growing demand for compact and affordable vehicles in urban areas. The combination of a low price, compact dimensions, and environmentally friendly drive technology could attract the interest of potential buyers. The official confirmation of the project is still pending, but preparations for the market launch of the Dacia Hipster are already underway. Final approval from management is expected in the coming months.
