Total Commander 11.57 RC 4 Released
Christian Ghisler has released version 11.57 Release Candidate 4 of the file manager Total Commander. This version focuses exclusively on bug fixes, which are documented in a detailed changelog. Ghisler has previously released several release candidates that also aimed at addressing bugs. The current release candidate fixes an issue where double quotes around the filename were lost when creating a new text file (Shift+F4) if an older entry from the list was selected. This affects both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the program.
Another fixed issue concerns the cm_Edit function, which previously did not work with multiple full paths or paths relative to the root directory of the current drive. This correction allows for improved use of the function in various scenarios. Additionally, the warning when opening files whose path contains a right-to-left character has been improved. Instead of the problematic character, a question mark is now displayed, enhancing user-friendliness. Another update pertains to the internal media player of the lister.
When switching audio playback to plugins like mmedia, the plugin was not fully displayed. This fix ensures a smoother integration of plugins into the user interface. The corrections also include the functionality of the standalone lister. When using the parameters /S=L:PTCMediaInfo, the TCMediaInfo plugin was not opened because the plugin file had the wrong extension. This adjustment ensures that the plugins are loaded correctly.
Another issue that has been resolved concerns the input fields and combo boxes in the configuration dialog. Pressing the ESC key previously caused an error beep, which is no longer the case. This change significantly improves the user experience. The tree view of the program has also been optimized. Pressing the ENTER key in the command line previously removed search results when the cursor was placed in the tree.
This correction ensures more consistent navigation within the application. Version 11.57 RC 4 is another step towards the final version of Total Commander. Ghisler had already released the previous release candidates in early April 2026, indicating that the development of the program is nearing completion. The complete changelog with all improvements and bug fixes is available on the official website.
The software continues to be offered in 32-bit and 64-bit versions to ensure broad compatibility. Total Commander is known for its extensive file management features and is appreciated by many users worldwide. The release of the final version 11.57 is expected in the near future, as the last bug fixes are now implemented. Ghisler has emphasized in the past that the stability and user-friendliness of his software are top priorities.
