Microsoft 365: No New Features for Windows 10

Microsoft has announced that after August 2026, no new features will be provided for Microsoft 365 on Windows 10 devices. This information was published in a recent support document. Starting with version 2608, Microsoft 365 will be the last version equipped with new features for Windows 10. However, security updates will continue to be available until October 10, 2028.

The current version of Microsoft 365, version 2607, was released on August 11, 2026. The next version, 2608, is expected to be released at the end of August 2026. Microsoft has clarified that users of Microsoft 365 on Windows 10 will not receive new features for applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint after the release of version 2608. For devices running Microsoft 365 apps on Windows 10, there will still be feature updates and Copilot support until the release of version 2608.

After the release, the software will remain on version 2608 and will only receive security updates until the end of support. Microsoft recommends that users upgrade to Windows 11 to receive the latest features and security updates. Microsoft has provided specific information regarding the OneDrive desktop app. Devices running the OneDrive app on Windows 10 version 22H2 will continue to receive updates until October 10, 2028.

However, older versions of Windows 10 will no longer be supported, meaning that the OneDrive app on these devices will not receive updates. Microsoft points out that using an unsupported operating system can lead to performance and reliability issues. Therefore, it is recommended that organizations using Microsoft 365 apps upgrade their devices to Windows 11. This is to ensure that users can benefit from the latest features and security updates. The decision to cease providing new features for Windows 10 is part of Microsoft's strategy to encourage users to move to newer operating system versions.

Since its launch in 2015, Windows 10 has been appreciated by many users; however, Microsoft has gradually reduced support for older versions to improve security and user experience. The complete cessation of support for Microsoft 365 on Windows 10 is planned for October 10, 2028. Until that date, users will continue to receive security updates that address newly discovered vulnerabilities. Microsoft has emphasized that user security is a top priority and that transitioning to newer operating systems is crucial for maintaining this security.

The announcement has already sparked discussions among users who are wondering how best to respond to the upcoming changes. Microsoft has not released specific figures on how many users are still using Windows 10, but it is known that a significant number will be affected by the upcoming changes. The last version of Microsoft 365 for Windows 10, version 2608, is expected to be released at the end of August 2026. Microsoft has clarified in its support document that this version will be the last to provide new features for Windows 10 users. Microsoft plans to fully discontinue support for Microsoft 365 on Windows 10 on October 10, 2028. Until that date, security updates will be provided to protect users from potential threats.
