Lotus Eletre X: Hybrid SUV with 1,200 km Range

Lotus has introduced the Eletre X, a new hybrid version of its hyper SUV Eletre, which is expected to offer a range of over 1,200 km. This innovative vehicle architecture combines the advantages of an electric drive with a gasoline engine to minimize range anxiety for buyers. The Eletre X is equipped with two electric motors that together produce up to 952 hp and 935 Nm of torque. The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h takes just 3.3 seconds, placing the Eletre X in the performance class of many sports cars. Lotus relies on a self-developed X-Hybrid architecture for this model, where a 2.0-liter turbo engine acts as a generator.

This engine continuously charges the battery while driving, allowing the vehicle to be predominantly powered electrically. Lotus states that the Eletre X offers an electric range of up to 350 km. The total WLTP range of over 1,200 km enables drivers to cover longer distances without frequent charging stops. At a 350 kW charger, the vehicle can be charged from 20 to 80 percent in about nine minutes, making it one of the fastest charging electric vehicles on the market. Another notable feature of the Eletre X is its weight.

Lotus claims that the vehicle is up to 120 kilograms lighter than the fully electric top version Eletre 900. This weight reduction could positively impact driving dynamics and efficiency, which is significant for an SUV of this size. The Eletre X's chassis is equipped with air suspension, active roll stabilizers, and adaptive dampers. These technologies are designed to ensure that the large SUV drives more agilely and sportily than its dimensions might suggest. The all-wheel drive also provides improved traction and stability on various surfaces.

Lotus has set the starting price for the Eletre X at €97,000. The first deliveries of the vehicle are planned for the fourth quarter of 2026. Interested customers can already place orders for the vehicle, indicating high demand. The combination of electric and gasoline powertrains could help Lotus position itself in an increasingly competitive electric vehicle market.

The innovative technology of the Eletre X could also inspire other manufacturers to develop similar hybrid solutions to address the challenges of range anxiety. With the Eletre X, Lotus aims not only to offer a powerful vehicle but also to find a solution to consumer concerns regarding the range of electric vehicles. Initial tests and reviews of the vehicle will show whether the stated performance figures can be achieved in practice. The first deliveries of the Lotus Eletre X are scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026, further increasing anticipation for this innovative hybrid vehicle.
