Google Unveils New Location Chip Pixel Tag

Google introduced the new location chip Pixel Tag on August 14, 2026. The chip measures 46.1 mm × 28.0 mm × 5.4 mm and weighs approximately 12 grams. It is rated IP67, making it both dust and water-resistant, suitable for everyday use. The Pixel Tag is powered by a replaceable CR2032 battery, which promises a lifespan of over a year.

Users can easily activate the chip by pulling on the battery tab and holding it close to an Android device running Android 9 or a newer version. The chip utilizes Google's "Find Hub" network, which allows lost items to be located using nearby Android devices. This functionality is supported by the combination of Ultra Wideband (UWB) and the Bluetooth 6.0 feature "Channel Sounding," enabling more precise location tracking. As the user approaches the lost item, its position can be displayed on the screen using visual distance and directional cues. This makes it easier to find items that may be hidden under other objects, such as laundry or sofa cushions.

The Find Hub app allows users to view their items on a map and make them ring as long as they are within Bluetooth range. Users can name items by selecting a category or entering a custom label. Another feature of the Pixel Tag is the ability to share the chip with up to 10 people, facilitating the joint search for items that belong to multiple users. The app then displays the locations of all shared items.

To use the Channel Sounding feature, a Pixel 10 or newer model is required. The Ultra Wideband technology is supported by the Pro models starting from the Pixel 6, while the regular Pixel 11 does not offer this technology. The Pixel Tag can also be used for tracking with the Pixel Watch. The Pixel Tag is set to launch on November 11, 2026.

Information regarding pricing and availability in Germany has not yet been released by Google. The company has announced that the Pixel Tag represents an important addition to its portfolio of smart home and tracking technologies. The combination of UWB and Bluetooth 6.0 is expected to provide a new dimension of tracking that goes beyond previous capabilities. The introduction of the Pixel Tag comes at a time when the market is increasingly driven by the demand for precise tracking solutions. According to a study by Statista, the market for tracking technologies is expected to grow to $10 billion by 2028.
