Audi Q9 Unveiled with Innovative OLED Taillights

The new Audi Q9, available in Germany since July 2026, sets new standards in vehicle lighting. As the world's first model, it features three-dimensional, curved OLED panels in the taillights. This innovative technology allows for adaptation to the body contours through glass that is only 0.1 millimeters thick. In total, the Q9's taillights house 512 individually controllable light segments arranged in six panels. These segments not only provide eight different light signatures but can also display warning symbols, such as in the event of accidents or traffic jams.

This function significantly enhances road safety. At the front of the vehicle, digital matrix LED headlights are employed, equipped with 25,600 light points per module. These headlights can project turn signal symbols directly onto the road and adjust the light during construction work, improving visibility and safety for all road users. Audi has established itself as a pioneer in vehicle lighting for years, having introduced the first OLED taillights in a production vehicle back in 2016.

With the Q9, this development continues, demonstrating how Audi is consistently working on improving lighting technologies. The Audi Q9 is available in various variants, including the Q9 TDI quattro with an output of 220 kW or 299 hp. Deliveries of the vehicles are set to begin in November 2026, further increasing anticipation for the new model. The taillights of the Q9 are not only a technical highlight but also an aesthetic one.

The curved shape and the ability to use different light signatures give the vehicle a modern and elegant appearance. Audi is thus setting new standards in vehicle lighting design. The development of OLED technology in the automotive industry could also impact other manufacturers. Audi shows that innovative lighting technologies are not only functional but also an important design element. The integration of such technologies could become standard in the industry in the future.

The introduction of the Audi Q9 with its advanced lighting technologies could also spark discussions about safety standards on the roads. The ability to display warning symbols via the taillights could help prevent accidents and enhance safety on the streets. The first deliveries of the Audi Q9 are planned for November 2026, further heightening anticipation for the new model. With this vehicle, Audi has taken another step towards innovative vehicle technologies. The taillights of the Audi Q9 are equipped with 512 individually controllable light segments arranged in six panels.
