Survey Reveals Skepticism Towards Artificial Intelligence
In Germany, many people use Artificial Intelligence (AI) in their daily lives, but a recent survey by Bitkom shows that not all users are enthusiastic about these technologies. The survey found that 23% of respondents wish for a world without AI. This raises questions about the acceptance and impact of AI on society. The survey was conducted in June 2026 and questioned over 1,000 individuals in Germany. The results indicate that the use of AI tools is widespread in various areas of life, such as healthcare, education, and the workplace.
Nevertheless, many people express concerns regarding the safety and ethical implications of these technologies. Particularly alarming is the fear of job losses due to automation. 38% of respondents stated that they are worried about their professional future as AI increasingly takes over tasks previously performed by humans. These fears are especially pronounced in industries heavily affected by automation. Another aspect addressed in the survey is trust in AI systems.
Only 29% of respondents feel comfortable accepting AI-driven decisions in important areas of life. This indicates a deeply rooted skepticism that may be exacerbated by negative reporting on AI and its misuse. The survey also shows that younger people tend to be more open to AI than older generations. Among those aged 18 to 29, 45% indicated that they appreciate the benefits of AI technologies, while only 18% of those over 60 support this view. This gap may be attributed to differing experiences and access to technology.
The discussion about the advantages and disadvantages of AI is further fueled by the increasing integration of these technologies into daily life. However, experts warn against unreflective acceptance. Dr. Anna Müller, a leading AI researcher, emphasizes: "It is crucial that we take the ethical and social implications of AI seriously and ensure that these technologies are used for the benefit of society." The survey results could also impact the political discussion regarding the regulation of AI. Politicians and decision-makers face the challenge of finding a balance between innovation and safety.
57% of respondents call for stronger regulation of AI applications to prevent misuse and negative impacts. Skepticism towards AI could also influence the development of new technologies. Companies offering AI solutions must increasingly address consumer concerns. 65% of respondents believe that companies should be more transparent about how their AI systems work.
The Bitkom survey shows that the debate about Artificial Intelligence in Germany is far from over. The results underscore the need to educate the public about the opportunities and risks of AI. The complete survey results will be published on July 15, 2026.
