BYD Dolphin G DM-i Premieres in Berlin

BYD has announced further details about its new compact car, the Dolphin G DM-i, which will premiere in Berlin in June 2026. The vehicle is positioned in the European B-segment and measures 4.16 meters in length. With a trunk volume of 425 liters, the space can be expanded to up to 1225 liters by folding down the rear seatbacks. The Dolphin G DM-i is one of the few plug-in hybrids in this vehicle class designed for a high electric range. Equipped with the proprietary DM-i technology (Dual Mode Intelligence), the vehicle combines a 120 kW (163 hp) electric motor with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine.

This combination allows for acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.3 seconds. According to BYD, the total range of the Dolphin G DM-i is 1,040 kilometers when both the battery and the gasoline tank are full. The all-electric range with the larger 18.3 kilowatt-hour battery is rated at 105 kilometers. With the smaller 7.42 kilowatt-hour battery, a WLTP range of 40 kilometers and a total range of 1,020 kilometers are possible. In EV mode, the Dolphin G DM-i operates like a pure electric vehicle, with the gasoline engine activating only at a certain battery charge level.

The electric motor recovers energy during braking to recharge the battery. This enables efficient use of electric energy for daily commuting. The Active models of the Dolphin G DM-i are equipped with an on-board charger that provides a charging power of 3.3 kW, allowing the battery to be charged from 15 to 100 percent in just under three hours. The Boost, Comfort, and Sport variants increase the charging power to 6.6 kW and offer a DC fast charging function of up to 39 kW.

This allows the 18.3-kilowatt-hour battery to be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 26 minutes. Features of the Dolphin G DM-i include alloy wheels in various sizes, LED taillights, and an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, along with an infotainment screen that measures either 10.1 or 12.8 inches. The different equipment variants offer various designs and functions to meet customer needs. Driver assistance systems are standard in all versions, including front and rear parking sensors as well as adaptive cruise control.

The Active and Boost variants additionally offer a rearview camera, while the Comfort and Sport versions are equipped with a 360-degree camera to ensure optimal all-around visibility. Other assistance systems include an emergency lane-keeping assistant and a lane departure warning. The market launch of the BYD Dolphin G DM-i occurs in an increasingly competitive market for electric and hybrid vehicles in Europe. With this model, BYD is responding to the growing demand for environmentally friendly vehicles that offer both range and flexibility. The vehicle's premiere in Berlin is scheduled for June 15, 2026.
