BMW iX3 40: New Entry-Level Model with High Range
BMW has introduced the new entry-level model of the iX3 family, the iX3 40. This Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) shares both design and technology with the more powerful iX3 50 xDrive. The iX3 40 is equipped with a battery that has a usable capacity of 82.6 kWh and utilizes BMW's latest eDrive technology. The range of the iX3 40 is specified according to the WLTP standard at up to 637 kilometers. The energy consumption is between 14.5 and 17.3 kWh per 100 kilometers.
The vehicle is powered by an electric motor at the rear axle, delivering an output of 320 hp (235 kW) and a torque of 500 Nm. The acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 5.9 seconds, while the top speed is electronically limited to 200 km/h. The iX3 40 is based on an 800-volt architecture that enables efficient energy transfer. A standout feature of the new model is its charging capability of up to 300 kW. This allows for a range of approximately 300 km to be achieved after just ten minutes of charging at a compatible fast charger.
This feature could be crucial for many users, especially on longer journeys. The iX3 40 is equipped with the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant featuring Amazon Alexa+. This system allows users to formulate questions and commands in natural language. The new Alexa+ will gradually be available for all BMW models with the BMW Operating System 9 and X starting in the second half of 2026. BMW plans to expand the availability of Alexa+ progressively, beginning with the markets in Germany and the USA.
This could significantly enhance the user experience and make interaction with the vehicle more intuitive. Starting in summer 2026, the equipment list for the iX3 40 will be expanded with nine new BMW Individual paint colors. The new colors include Voodoo Blue, Urban Green, Java Green II metallic, and Twilight Purple with a pearlescent effect. These options provide buyers with more opportunities to customize their vehicles. Additionally, heated rear seats will be offered as a new option, increasing comfort for passengers.
These new features could further increase interest in the model and make it attractive to a broader customer base. The BMW iX3 40 is already available for order. The starting price for the model is €63,400. The market launch of the vehicle is eagerly anticipated by BMW, as it represents a more cost-effective option within the iX3 family. BMW has announced that the first deliveries of the iX3 40 will take place throughout 2026. The exact timeframe for delivery will be announced in the coming months.
