Renault Brings Back the Gordini as an Electric Coupe

Renault has announced the reinterpretation of the classic Renault 8 Gordini from 1964 in the form of a fully electric sports coupe. The Renault 8 Gordini Concept will be showcased at the Paris Motor Show from October 12 to 18, 2026. The vehicle combines nostalgic design elements with modern technology and aims to highlight the connection between the past and future of the automotive industry.

The new coupe boasts a power output of 270 hp and is equipped with rear-wheel drive. With a length of 4.12 meters, a width of 1.88 meters, and a height of just 1.27 meters, the vehicle presents itself in a compact and sporty format. The proportions are significantly more extreme than those of the original, giving the vehicle a modern rally-like appearance. The design of the new Gordini incorporates numerous details from the original. The characteristic blue paint with two white stripes is retained, while the six round headlights recall the rally version of the original Gordini.

The angular wheel arches have also been modernly interpreted to emphasize the sporty character. The technical specifications of the new model include 19-inch wheels at the front and 20-inch wheels at the rear. This combination contributes to the low and wide body, which Renault itself compares to a modern rally vehicle. Engineers have placed special emphasis on driving dynamics to ensure a sporty driving experience. Inside, the Gordini Concept merges nostalgic elements with contemporary technology.

The dashboard is made of brushed aluminum, and several round digital displays are positioned in front of the driver. Alcantara bucket seats and a streamlined driver environment with a minimal number of controls are designed to focus on the driving experience. The original Renault 8 Gordini was introduced in 1964 with a rear-mounted 95 hp gasoline engine and rear-wheel drive. The model gained significant recognition through motorsport and helped make sports cars accessible to a broader audience. The new Gordini Concept aims to continue this tradition, albeit in a modern electric format.

While the vehicle is likely to appeal to many fans of the original, Renault has clarified that it is a unique design study. There are currently no plans for series production of the new Gordini.
