Recall for MG3 Due to Safety Risk

A crash test conducted by Euro NCAP revealed that the driver's seat of the Chinese model MG3 can detach during a frontal collision. In response, the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) has ordered a recall for all affected vehicles. According to the KBA, there is a possibility that the front seat may shift during an accident, jeopardizing the safety of the occupants. During the crash test, it was observed that the right adjustment mechanism of the driver's seat failed, causing the seat to rotate upon impact. This movement increased the loads on the right leg of the driver dummy, which was rated as inadequate.

In contrast, the protection of the driver's head was deemed sufficient, as it made contact with the airbag at the steering wheel. The KBA has identified the affected vehicles produced between January 30, 2024, and October 26, 2025. A total of 117,425 vehicles are affected worldwide, including 7,817 in Germany.

Owners of these vehicles are urged to visit their workshops to make the necessary modifications. MG has acknowledged the issue and announced plans to change the design of the driver's seat. A modified seat mechanism has already been introduced into production. Euro NCAP has confirmed the effectiveness of this retrofit and urges all owners to have their vehicles modified accordingly. The retrofit solution will be offered free of charge at authorized MG workshops.

Affected vehicle owners should schedule an appointment promptly to minimize the risk of an accident. The manufacturer's recall code is RE004, and the KBA reference number is 15830R. So far, no incidents involving property damage or personal injury have been reported that can be attributed to this safety issue. Nevertheless, the KBA is concerned about the potential risks associated with the current seat design. The authority has emphasized that the safety of the occupants is the top priority.

MG has already taken measures to ensure the safety of the vehicles. The new seat designs are intended to ensure that the driver's seat remains stable even in a frontal impact. Euro NCAP has positively evaluated the changes and underscored the necessity of the recall action. Affected vehicle owners can find information about the recall on the KBA website and initiate the necessary steps. Workshops are required to implement the recall measures promptly to ensure vehicle safety.

The retrofits are expected to be completed in the coming months. MG is committed to continuously improving the quality and safety of its vehicles. The changes to the seat design are part of these efforts to strengthen customer trust in the brand. Safety standards are regularly reviewed to ensure that all vehicles meet current requirements. The recall for the MG3 is an important step towards enhancing vehicle safety. Affected owners should contact their workshops immediately to have the necessary adjustments made. The safety of the occupants is paramount, and MG is working to take all necessary measures.
