New Chrome Update Closes Ten Security Vulnerabilities
Google released an update on October 16, 2026, for browser versions 155.0.8059.84/85 for Windows and macOS, as well as 155.0.8059.84 for Linux. This update fixes a total of ten vulnerabilities. According to Google, none of these vulnerabilities are currently being actively exploited. In the Chrome Release Blog, Daniel Yip has detailed the ten fixed security vulnerabilities.
Of these vulnerabilities, four were discovered by Google itself, while the other six were identified by external security researchers. Notably, security researcher Xinyang Ge reported five of the vulnerabilities, which he allegedly discovered with the assistance of the AI “Claude” from his employer Anthropic. The critically rated vulnerability CVE-2026-110922 pertains to a use-after-free (UAF) flaw in the Prerender component. Six other vulnerabilities have been classified as high risk, while three are classified as medium risk. So far, no bounties have been awarded for the reports of these security vulnerabilities.
Just two days prior, Google had already released an update for Chrome 155 that closed 37 security vulnerabilities, some of which were also rated as critical. Chrome typically updates automatically in the background, but users can also manually check for updates through the menu under “Help” and “About Google Chrome.” Additionally, the Android version of Chrome 155.0.8059.84 has been released, which addresses the same security vulnerabilities as the desktop versions. The Extended Stable Channel (ESC) for Windows and macOS now includes Chromium version 152.0.7977.169. Manufacturers of other Chromium-based browsers are now under pressure to update their software as well.
Browsers such as Vivaldi, Brave, and Microsoft Edge are currently on the security level prior to the latest Chrome update. Opera, despite an update on October 14, is still using the outdated Chromium version 153.0.8010.55. An overview of Chromium-based browsers shows that Google Chrome with version 155.0.8059.85 is the latest version. Brave has version 1.97.571 and Microsoft Edge has version 155.0.4283.601, both based on Chromium version 155.0.8059.80.
Opera One remains on the older Chromium version 153.0.8010.55 with version 137.0.6036.631. The next version of Chrome, 156, is expected to be released on October 20, 2026. Users are strongly urged to regularly update their browsers to minimize security risks.
