Mercedes Launches More Affordable C-Class Electric with All-Wheel Drive

Mercedes-Benz has announced the introduction of a new, more affordable variant of the C-Class Electric, equipped with all-wheel drive. The powertrain consists of two electric motors that deliver a total output of 310 kW (421 hp) and a torque of 800 Nm. This configuration enables acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 210 km/h. The battery of the new C-Class Electric has a usable capacity of 85 kWh, compared to the 94 kWh of the more powerful C 400 4MATIC model. The range is specified at a maximum of 690 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle, while the top model achieves up to 762 kilometers.

These figures position the vehicle as competitive in the electric vehicle segment. A standout feature of the C-Class Electric is the 800-volt technology, which allows for fast charging. The vehicle can be fast-charged at up to 320 kW, with a charge from 10 to 80 percent expected to take just 22 minutes. In only 10 minutes, energy for a range of 290 kilometers can be charged, enhancing the vehicle's practicality for everyday use. Mercedes has also heavily emphasized the recuperation technology in this model.

The recuperation power can reach up to 300 kW, and according to the manufacturer, up to 99 percent of all braking processes can be carried out without the use of conventional friction brakes. This contributes to the efficiency and range of the vehicle. The options list includes various features, such as the Airmatic air suspension and rear-wheel steering, which are intended to further improve driving behavior and comfort. The trunk offers a volume of 470 liters and is complemented by an additional front trunk with 101 liters, increasing flexibility for transporting luggage. The towing capacity of the new C-Class Electric is up to 1,800 kilograms, making it suitable for various applications.

Inside, there is the 99.3-centimeter-wide MBUX Hyperscreen, equipped with the Mercedes operating system MB.OS. This technology aims to provide intuitive operation and a modern user experience. Mercedes-Benz plans to offer additional versions of the C-Class Electric with rear-wheel drive and different battery sizes in the future. This expansion of the model range is intended to meet the diverse needs of customers and increase market share in the electric vehicle segment. A specific date for the launch of the new C-Class Electric has not yet been announced. In Germany, the price starts at €62,951.
