BYD Dolphin G DM-i Premieres in Berlin
BYD has announced further details about its new compact car, the Dolphin G DM-i, which will premiere in Berlin in June 2026. The vehicle is positioned in the European B-segment and measures 4.16 meters in length. With a trunk volume of 425 liters, the storage space can be expanded to up to 1225 liters by folding down the rear seatbacks. The Dolphin G DM-i is one of the few plug-in hybrids in this vehicle class that focuses on long electric ranges. BYD's DM-i technology combines a 120 kW (163 hp) electric motor with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine.
This combination allows for acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.3 seconds. According to BYD, the total range of the vehicle is 1,040 kilometers when both the battery and the gasoline tank are full. The purely electric range with the larger 18.3 kilowatt-hour battery is stated to be 105 kilometers. With the smaller 7.42 kilowatt-hour battery, a WLTP range of 40 kilometers and a total range of 1,020 kilometers are possible. In EV mode, the Dolphin G DM-i operates like a pure electric vehicle, with the gasoline engine activating only at a certain battery charge level.
The electric motor utilizes brake energy for recuperation to recharge the battery. The Active models are equipped with a 3.3 kW on-board charger, allowing for a full charge from 15 to 100 percent in just under three hours. The Boost, Comfort, and Sport variants offer an increased charging power of 6.6 kW and support a DC fast charging function of up to 39 kW. This enables the 18.3-kilowatt-hour battery to be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 26 minutes. The Dolphin G DM-i features include alloy wheels in various sizes, LED taillights, and an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, along with an infotainment screen that measures either 10.1 or 12.8 inches.
All versions come standard with front and rear parking sensors. The Active and Boost variants additionally feature a rearview camera, while the Comfort and Sport models are equipped with a 360-degree camera. Driver assistance systems include adaptive cruise control, intelligent cruise control, an emergency lane-keeping assistant, and front and rear cross-traffic alerts. The BYD Dolphin G DM-i is expected to be an innovative vehicle in the growing market for electric and hybrid vehicles in Europe. The premiere will take place in June 2026 in Berlin.
