YouTube Premium Increases Prices in Germany

On June 11, 2026, Google increased the prices for YouTube Premium in Germany. The price hike affects both monthly and annual subscriptions. The monthly subscription for YouTube Premium now costs €14.99, reflecting a €2 increase from the previous price of €12.99.

New customers are offered a free trial month. Those opting for an annual subscription will pay €149.99, which also represents a €20 increase, as the previous price was €129.99. The family subscription, which includes up to six users in the same household, now costs €27.99 per month. This is a €4 increase from the previous price of €23.99. A free trial month is also available for the family subscription, but not for the annual subscription.

The price for students has also been raised. The monthly subscription now costs €8.99, which is an increase of €1.50. A free trial month is available here as well, but no annual subscription is offered. The cheaper option, YouTube Premium Lite, has also become more expensive. Subscribers now have to pay €7.99 per month, which is a price increase of €2 or about 33 percent.

Premium Lite offers largely ad-free content, except for music videos and Shorts, and allows videos to be played in the background. The last price increase for YouTube Premium in Germany occurred in November 2023. At that time, the prices for the monthly subscription rose from €11.99 to €12.99. The annual subscription increased from €119.99 to €129.99, while the family subscription rose from €17.99 to €23.99. Students previously paid €6.99 per month and then had to pay €7.49.

The price increase for YouTube Premium and the various subscriptions occurs in a market that is increasingly competing for subscribers. The new prices are effective immediately, and users who disagree with the changes must cancel their subscription. YouTube has announced that subscribers of Premium Lite must accept the price increase; otherwise, the subscription will be terminated. The price increase is part of a broader strategy by Google to boost revenue from its streaming services.
