Volvo Expands Safety Features in New Models

Volvo has announced that the new models EX60, EX90, and ES90 will be equipped with enhanced safety features. These new warning systems are part of the company's ongoing efforts to improve road safety through connected vehicle technology. The new features will initially be available in these three models. The new warning systems include four specific alarm types. The "Large Animal Alert" warns drivers of larger animals that are on or near the road.

This is particularly significant in rural areas where wildlife frequently crosses roads. Another alarm type is the "Vulnerable Road User Alert", which warns pedestrians and cyclists on or near highways of potential dangers. This feature aims to enhance the safety of non-motorized road users who often find themselves in hazardous situations. Additionally, the "Roadwork Alert" is being introduced to inform drivers about construction sites. This warning is intended to help prevent accidents in areas with temporary traffic changes.

The "Accident Ahead Alert" warns of accidents that have occurred further down the road, allowing drivers to react in time. The new alerts are based on information collected from connected vehicles. Volvo has been using this technology since 2016 to exchange data about road conditions such as slipperiness or vehicles with activated hazard lights. Through the European "Data for Road Safety" system, this information can also be shared with other car brands and national traffic control centers. Volvo has stated that currently more than one million vehicles of the brand are equipped with this connected safety technology.

These vehicles contribute to creating a more comprehensive picture of the traffic situation and enhancing safety on the roads. In addition to the safety features, the latest software update for the EX90 and ES90 also includes improvements in the audio experience. The vehicles now support Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos via Apple CarPlay, providing enhanced sound quality through the 25 speakers in the vehicles. The introduction of these new features comes in a year when Volvo is also facing challenges. Reports indicate that only 100 units of the exclusive electric car have been sold this year, pointing to a weak market.

Nevertheless, the company remains optimistic and relies on technological innovations to increase the appeal of its models. Volvo has also announced that more than 50% of the vehicles sold this year are equipped with an electric motor. This demonstrates the company's commitment to sustainable mobility and reducing emissions. The new safety features are expected to be implemented in the vehicles in the coming months.

Volvo plans to roll out the software updates gradually to ensure that all affected vehicles meet the latest safety standards. The new warning systems are part of Volvo's long-term strategy to enhance road safety and reduce accident rates. The company is committed to ensuring that by 2025, there will be no fatalities or serious injuries in its vehicles. The new features are another step towards a safer and more connected future in road traffic.
