Uncertain Future of the GeForce RTX 5090

The future of Nvidia's GeForce RTX 5090 is increasingly uncertain. Roman Hartung, known as "der8auer," has received information from various players in the supply chain indicating serious issues with the ordering of the graphics processor GB202. An anonymous graphics card manufacturer has reported that it is no longer possible to order the required 32 GB GDDR7 memory. This represents a significant deviation from previous practices, where reorders were possible even during component shortages. Additionally, a supplier of graphics card coolers has reported a declining demand.

Two graphics card manufacturers have drastically reduced their planned orders for the first quarter of 2027 compared to the third quarter of 2026. No orders have been submitted to suppliers for the second quarter of 2027, indicating a concerning trend in the industry. However, Nvidia has vehemently denied reports of a potential discontinuation of the RTX 5090. In a written response to Hartung, the company stated that while the supply chain is under pressure, production of the model will continue. Nvidia emphasizes that the RTX 5090 is still set to be delivered in the future, which further intensifies the uncertainty surrounding the actual situation.

The issues in the supply chain could indicate either a temporary component shortage or a strategic decision by Nvidia to scale back production of the most powerful GeForce card. Analysts warn that a continued restriction of supplies could further worsen availability, likely leading to a price increase. The uncertainty regarding availability could also influence purchasing decisions by consumers and businesses. The graphics card industry has faced various challenges in recent years, including chip shortages and rising production costs. These factors have already led to price increases for many models.

The RTX 5090, as one of Nvidia's flagship products, could be particularly affected by these developments. Feedback from the industry suggests that demand for high-performance graphics cards remains, but uncertainty about availability may hinder consumer willingness to purchase. Manufacturers and retailers face the challenge of managing their inventories while responding to changing market conditions. The situation could escalate in the coming months, especially if production issues are not resolved promptly. Nvidia has committed to continuing production of the RTX 5090, but actual availability remains in question.

The industry will closely monitor how the situation develops and what measures Nvidia will take to address the challenges. The uncertainty surrounding the RTX 5090 could also impact the entire gaming and creative industry, as many users rely on high-performance graphics cards. Demand for new technologies and powerful components remains high, while production capacities are under pressure. According to recent reports, the availability of the RTX 5090 in the coming months could be crucial for Nvidia's market position. The next steps from Nvidia and the affected manufacturers will be critical to ensuring supply chain stability.

The graphics card industry is facing a critical phase where corporate decisions could have far-reaching consequences. Nvidia has announced that it will continue to support the RTX 5090, but it remains to be seen how the situation will unfold in practice. The uncertainty surrounding the RTX 5090 is expected to persist until the end of 2026, as the industry awaits further information from Nvidia. The coming months could be decisive for how the availability and prices of graphics cards will develop. "We have not halted production of the RTX 5090 and are working to address the challenges in the supply chain," said a spokesperson for Nvidia.
