Toyota Unveils Extreme GRMN Corolla
Toyota has introduced the new GRMN Corolla, regarded as the most extreme version of the GR Corolla. Developed by Gazoo Racing, the vehicle aims to achieve peak performance on the Nürburgring. Unlike many other manufacturers that focus on digital features, Toyota emphasizes pure driving dynamics. Under the hood of the GRMN Corolla is a 1.6-liter three-cylinder turbo engine that delivers 304 horsepower. The torque has been increased from 400 Nm to 415 Nm to optimize driving characteristics.
The vehicle is equipped with a closely spaced six-speed manual transmission that allows for precise control. An upgraded all-wheel-drive system and a specially developed suspension have been optimized through testing on the Nürburgring and in the Japanese Super Taikyu series. These adjustments are intended to enhance precision during sporty driving and improve handling. A distinctive feature of the GRMN Corolla is the extensive use of carbon. The hood, front fenders, spoiler elements, and adjustable rear wing are made from this lightweight material.
This has allowed the vehicle's weight to be reduced by 30 kilograms compared to the standard model. The rear bench seat has been removed, making the GRMN Corolla a pure two-seater. This decision contributes to weight reduction and underscores the sporty character of the vehicle. The tires have also been tuned for performance, featuring wider Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires that provide better grip. To maintain performance during longer track sessions, additional cooling for the intercooler has been integrated.
These technical details are crucial for the vehicle's performance under extreme conditions. Inside the GRMN Corolla, there are new bucket seats inspired by the brand's racing cars. Carbon details and a special GRMN plaque with an individual serial number give the vehicle an exclusive character. Akio Toyoda, also known as Morizo, has immortalized his signature on the dashboard, highlighting the connection to Toyota's motorsport tradition. The production of the GRMN Corolla takes place at the Motomachi plant of the Toyota Motor Corporation in Japan.
The production will be limited, and the vehicle is primarily intended for sale in Japan, North America, and Australia. Plans for the European market have not yet been announced. The GRMN Corolla represents a significant departure from current trends in the automotive industry, which often focus on heavier, digitized vehicles. With its emphasis on lightweight construction and driving dynamics, the GRMN Corolla could be seen as a provocative response to changing market conditions. The official presentation of the GRMN Corolla took place on June 3, 2026, and Toyota plans to launch the vehicle in the coming months.
