Sparkasse Discontinues S-ID-Check App by Year-End

Sparkasse has informed its customers that the S-ID-Check app will be discontinued by the end of 2026. From that point on, the app will no longer be available for online payments. Customers using the S-ID-Check app must therefore switch to the S-pushTAN app immediately to continue shopping online with their Sparkasse card. As of January 16, 2026, new registrations for the S-ID-Check app will no longer be possible.

Sparkasse recommends that customers make the switch to the S-pushTAN app as soon as possible, as the transition may take some time. Customers who have not yet used the S-pushTAN app will need a registration letter to set up the app. The S-pushTAN app will replace the S-ID-Check app as the second factor in two-factor authentication. This authentication is necessary to securely process online payments. With the S-pushTAN app, customers can easily authorize their online purchases with a swipe on their smartphone or tablet.

Berliner Sparkasse has announced that the S-ID-Check app will be discontinued on December 31, 2026. In contrast, Sparkasse Hannover plans to continue supporting the app until January 31, 2027. Until that date, customers of Sparkasse Hannover can still authorize payments using the S-ID-Check app.

For customers who already use the S-pushTAN app for online banking, the transition is simpler. They only need to confirm card authorization within the app via pushTAN. The previous coexistence of the S-ID-Check app and the S-pushTAN app will be eliminated, simplifying usage for customers. Sparkasse has published a guide explaining how to activate the 3-D Secure feature to use the S-pushTAN app. This feature is crucial for security in online payments and will become the primary method of authentication going forward.
