Renault 5: New Version with Greater Range

Renault has announced that the entry-level version of the Renault 5, known as the "Five", will be equipped with a new powertrain in the coming weeks. The current 40 kWh battery with 95 hp will be replaced by a 36.5 kWh LFP battery and a more powerful electric motor with 110 hp. Despite the smaller battery, Renault claims a range of up to 305 kilometers according to WLTP. The use of LFP technology, which is generally cheaper to produce than NMC chemistry, could lower the prices for the new version. However, Renault has not yet disclosed a price for the new variant.

The introduction of a more affordable version of the Renault 5 with an LFP battery had already been announced previously. A significant improvement is the support for DC charging, which is now standard in the Renault 5 "Five". The maximum charging power is 80 kW, while the integrated AC charger offers a power of 6.6 kW. These changes are intended to enhance user-friendliness and flexibility when charging the vehicle. In addition to the new models, the existing 40 kWh version of the Renault 5 will also be improved.

New exterior mirrors, changes to the underbody, and optimized battery electronics are expected to reduce consumption. The 40 kWh version now achieves a range of up to 315 kilometers, while the 52 kWh variant boasts a maximum WLTP range of 430 kilometers. Renault has also introduced a new "Smart" driving mode that automatically switches between the "Eco", "Comfort", and "Sport" modes depending on the driving situation. This feature aims to further enhance driving comfort and efficiency. Additionally, a new wireless Qi2 charger for mobile phones will be integrated, raising the technological standard of the vehicle.

Pre-orders for the revised Renault 5 E-Tech are already possible in the European markets where the model is sold. The vehicle will be presented at the Paris Motor Show in October 2026, which is an important platform for showcasing new car models. The Renault 5 E-Tech has already proven to be successful and is considered a leader among small electric cars. The model was awarded Car of the Year in 2025 and has stood out for its combination of compact design and modern technology. The introduction of the new version of the Renault 5 could further strengthen the company's competitiveness in the growing electric vehicle market.

According to Renault, the new version is also expected to appeal to younger buyers looking for affordable electric vehicles. The shift to LFP batteries could also lower production costs in the long term, positively impacting pricing. Renault aims to make electric mobility accessible to a broader customer base. The official presentation of the revised Renault 5 E-Tech will take place on October 3, 2026, at the Paris Motor Show.
