Jaguar I-Pace Records Highest Depreciation

A recent study by ISeeCars has revealed that the Jaguar I-Pace is the vehicle with the highest depreciation. After five years, the electric SUV has lost an average of 72.2% of its original purchase price. This equates to a depreciation of $51,953 or more than €45,000. In comparison, the average vehicle in the study, which analyzed around 800,000 five-year-old vehicles, lost 45.6% of its value over five years. The I-Pace also stands out compared to other electric vehicles, where the average depreciation is 58.8%.

The I-Pace was first introduced as a prototype in 2016 and hit the market in 2018. Its range of about 355 kilometers and maximum fast-charging capability of 100 kW are now outdated compared to newer electric vehicles. These technical shortcomings may have contributed to the high depreciation. Production of the I-Pace was halted in 2024, further negatively impacting the vehicle's value. Additionally, there have been several recalls related to battery issues.

These factors have undermined buyer confidence in the model. Jaguar Land Rover positioned the I-Pace as the company's first electric road vehicle. The features included an infotainment system with two touchscreens, a digital instrument cluster, and a head-up display. The design was inspired by the C-X75 and F-Pace models. However, the high depreciation also offers advantages for used car buyers.

A vehicle that was originally expensive can now be purchased for a fraction of its new price. This could represent an attractive option for buyers looking for an electric vehicle. The ISeeCars study shows that the depreciation of the I-Pace is significantly higher than that of other vehicles.
