Jaguar I-Pace Records Highest Depreciation Among Cars
A recent study by ISeeCars has found that the Jaguar I-Pace exhibits the highest depreciation among all analyzed vehicles after five years. The electric SUV has lost an average of 72.2 percent of its original purchase price, equating to a depreciation of $51,953 or over €45,000. In comparison, the average vehicle in the study lost 45.6 percent of its value within five years. The I-Pace is also notable within the electric vehicle segment, where the average depreciation stands at 58.8 percent. The I-Pace was first introduced as a prototype in 2016 and hit the market in 2018.
The vehicle's range was initially stated to be around 355 kilometers per battery charge. The I-Pace is powered by two electric motors that together achieve an output of approximately 400 horsepower. A significant factor contributing to the high depreciation is the now outdated technology of the I-Pace. The maximum fast-charging capacity is only 100 kW, which is considered insufficient compared to newer electric vehicles. These technological shortcomings have led to decreased demand for the I-Pace in the market.
Production of the Jaguar I-Pace was halted in 2024, further accelerating its depreciation. Additionally, there have been several recalls related to battery issues. These factors have undermined consumer confidence in the model. The ISeeCars study analyzed around 800,000 five-year-old vehicles to determine depreciation. The I-Pace stands out not only in comparison to other vehicles but also within the electric car category, highlighting the challenges Jaguar faces.
For used car buyers, however, the high depreciation of the I-Pace could present an opportunity. A vehicle that was originally expensive can now be purchased for a fraction of its new price. This may be of interest to buyers looking for an electric vehicle. Jaguar Land Rover positioned the I-Pace as its first electric road vehicle, underscoring the model's significance for the brand. Despite the challenges, the I-Pace remains an example of the evolution of electric vehicles in recent years. The ISeeCars study shows that the Jaguar I-Pace, with a depreciation of 72.2 percent, is the most affected vehicle.
