Generation Z Critically Responds to AI

A recent survey has revealed that Generation Z's perception of artificial intelligence (AI) is strongly negative. Despite the high usage of AI tools among this age group, many young people express concerns about the impact on the job market. The survey indicates that many members of this generation view AI as a means to outsource jobs and replace human labor. Conducted in April 2026, the survey questioned over 1,500 individuals aged 18 to 25. The results show that 67% of respondents believe that AI technologies primarily serve to cut costs rather than improve quality of life.

This skepticism is particularly pronounced regarding the automation of jobs, which many perceive as a threat to their professional future. Another aspect of the survey addresses the perception of AI in education. 58% of respondents indicated that they fear AI-supported learning platforms could reduce personal interaction with teachers. In their opinion, this development could lead to alienation in the educational process and impair the quality of learning. The survey results also show that many young people feel they are not adequately informed about how AI works. 72% of respondents desire more education about the technologies they use daily. This information gap could lead to a further increase in skepticism towards AI, as ignorance often breeds distrust.

The survey also highlighted Generation Z's fears regarding the future of work. 65% of respondents expressed concerns about their career prospects, believing that AI could render many traditional jobs obsolete. These fears are particularly strong in sectors such as retail and administration, where automation is already widespread. Some respondents described AI as a form of “bullshit” that primarily serves to help companies maximize profits without regard for social impacts. This critical stance could significantly influence the acceptance of AI technologies in the future, as young people increasingly value ethical and social responsibility.

The survey also showed a significant difference in the perception of AI among various social groups. 74% of respondents from lower-income households expressed particularly negative views about AI, while skepticism among wealthier respondents was lower. This divide may be attributed to differing experiences with technology and its impacts on daily life. The survey results raise questions about how companies and educational institutions should address Generation Z's concerns. Experts recommend that greater transparency and education about AI technologies are necessary to gain the trust of the younger generation.

80% of respondents believe that companies have a responsibility to consider the societal impacts of their technologies. The survey was conducted by an independent research institute, and the results were published on April 30, 2026. The data could provide important insights for the development of AI strategies in businesses and educational institutions. The survey results underscore the need to take Generation Z's concerns seriously and to incorporate them into the development of AI technologies. A quote from one respondent encapsulates the sentiment: "We do not want to serve merely as test subjects for new technologies."
