Deutsche Post AG Becomes DHL AG
Starting September 1, 2026, Deutsche Post AG will be registered under the new name DHL AG in the commercial register. This renaming follows the rebranding of the corporate group to DHL Group, which was completed in July 2023 but did not legally affect the parent company. Deutsche Post AG, which acquired the US company DHL in 2002, will continue to exist as a brand for mail and parcel services in Germany. This subsidiary will operate as a legally independent, non-public company under the name Deutsche Post AG.
The renaming of the parent company to DHL AG was approved by shareholders with a majority of 99.95 percent of the votes. This decision also includes the spin-off of the Post & Parcel Germany business unit into a standalone company. The restructuring will incur significant costs. According to reports from Tagesschau, the one-time costs are estimated at around 37 million euros, while the annual additional costs are projected to be about three million euros. The new subsidiary Deutsche Post AG will focus on day-to-day operations, while DHL AG will continue to manage corporate strategy and governance.
The supervisory board of the new subsidiary will also be newly established, which will bring additional administrative costs. The renaming and the associated changes are part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at strengthening DHL's international brand identity. The decision to change the legal name reflects the growing importance of the DHL brand in the global market. Deutsche Post DHL Group had already announced in May 2026 that the rebranding and structural changes would take effect in the second half of the year following registration in the commercial register. The renaming is seen as a step towards further integration of the various business areas.
The restructuring will also impact the internal organization. The new subsidiary will focus on the specific requirements of the German market, while DHL AG will oversee the global activities and strategic direction of the group. The renaming to DHL AG is viewed as part of a long-term vision aimed at strengthening the company's market position in an increasingly competitive environment. The transition is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
In recent years, Deutsche Post DHL Group has focused heavily on developing innovative logistics solutions to meet the demands of e-commerce and global supply chains. The renaming to DHL AG is seen as another step in this strategy. The rebranding will be officially completed on September 1, 2026, and the new structure is expected to further enhance the company's efficiency and flexibility.
