BMW X5 Long Wheelbase and iX5 Long Wheelbase Unveiled

BMW has expanded its X5 family with two new models: the X5 Long Wheelbase and the fully electric iX5 Long Wheelbase. These models feature a wheelbase extended by 130 millimeters, providing rear passengers with more legroom and a more spacious interior. The interiors of the new models have been extensively upgraded. Among the innovations is the Panoramic iDrive with the BMW Operating System X, which offers an improved user interface. Another highlight is the Panoramic Vision, which runs along the lower edge of the windshield and provides drivers with additional information.

For the first time, a passenger display is offered in the X5, enhancing interactivity within the vehicle. Rear passengers also benefit from the technological upgrade, as the models are equipped with the next generation of the Theatre Screen, enabling 8K streaming, gaming, and video calls. The fully electric iX5 is based on the sixth generation of BMW eDrive technology. According to the Chinese CLTC driving cycle, a range of over 1,000 kilometers is claimed, making it one of the most capable electric SUVs on the market. The new models have been specifically developed for the Chinese market, where vehicles with extended wheelbases are particularly in demand.

BMW plans to launch the X5 Long Wheelbase and the iX5 Long Wheelbase in 2027. The introduction of these models will occur as standalone variants in China. They combine the technical innovations and design of the X5 with the forward-looking technologies of the New Class, tailored to meet the expectations of Chinese customers. BMW has already announced that the new X5 will be available with five different powertrains.

This includes both conventional combustion engines and fully electric drives, catering to the diverse needs of customers. The market launch of the new X5 and iX5 is viewed by BMW as a strategic step to strengthen its presence in the growing Chinese automotive market.
