Zero Trust: Security Gaps in Data Movement
A recent study has found that data movement represents a crucial bottleneck for the implementation of Zero Trust security programs. The investigation, conducted as part of the report Cyber360: Defending the Digital Battlespace, is based on a survey of 500 security professionals. The results indicate that many companies mistakenly assume that merely connecting a system is sufficient to resolve security issues. The survey revealed that 67% of respondents reported difficulties in ensuring secure data movement within their Zero Trust strategies. These challenges often lead to delays and inefficient security measures.
The researchers emphasize that the assumption that simply connecting a system resolves security problems is incorrect. A central issue is the complexity of data movement between various systems and platforms. Many companies use multiple gateways and ticketing systems to transfer data, which jeopardizes security. 58% of respondents indicated that they struggle to control and secure data movement across different environments. The study highlights that insufficient visibility and control over data movement can lead to security gaps.
73% of security professionals believe that improved visibility of data movement is crucial for the successful implementation of Zero Trust. This visibility is necessary to detect and neutralize potential threats early. Another aspect addressed in the study is the need to automate security policies. 65% of respondents believe that automated security policies could significantly enhance the efficiency and security of data movement. Automation could help reduce human errors and shorten response times to security incidents.
The researchers recommend that companies rethink their security strategies and consider data movement as an integral part of their Zero Trust architecture. 82% of respondents believe that a stronger focus on data movement would improve the overall security of their systems. However, this requires a comprehensive analysis of existing security infrastructures. Additionally, the study points out that training for employees is essential. 70% of respondents indicated that a lack of knowledge about security practices leads to increased vulnerability to attacks.
Regular training could help raise awareness of security risks and strengthen the security culture within companies. The results of the study underscore that the challenges associated with data movement cannot be ignored. Companies must take proactive measures to optimize their Zero Trust strategies. The study was published on April 27, 2026.
